The oil filter is located behind the hydraulic pump. The oil flows through the filter once oil temperature is > –5°C. If the oil temperature is < –5°C, the oil is too thick and cannot flow through the filter walls. A ball within the filter is pushed back, thereby opening the bypass. The oil can now make its way via the bypass to the main pressure channel.

The basic settings must be performed with complaints about the shift quality, if the gearbox or the gearbox control unit are replaced or the software is overwritten.
Check the shift quality during a test drive.
(1) Warm-up
The gear oil temperature rises, if the vehicle is used at idle speed or in urban operation. Check the gear oil temperature with the tester and make sure that it is between 66 and 110ºC.
If the oil temperature is not between 66 and 110ºC, the programming is not performed.
VAG tester: Transmission electronics -> basic settings -> select channel 001 and reset the value to 0, select channel 002 and reset the value to 0.
The gear oil temperature must not be increased by seizing the brakes.
(2) Stationary shift programming
On a stationary vehicle press the brakes, shift from N to D and hold for 3 seconds. Repeat 5 times. Then repeat 5 times in position R.
(3) Programming for gear change control
Drive in D with about a third accelerator pedal position on open roads, till you are in 6th gear and have reached of at least 80 km/h. Release the accelerator pedal and roll the vehicle in position D. After at least 60 seconds bring the vehicle to standstill. Repeat 10 times.
(4) Check the programming results
Check whether the jolting has improved.
